This was discussed at Spearfish and others have spoken about Lithium batteries as an replacement for the lead acid batteries.

The following link has a lot of info on the subject in several articals including one regarding the 787 problems.

Interesting read.

We met with Chris and Cherie in Billings where they are finishing up their engine overhaul. They are truly impressed and enjoying their LION batteries. Especially with the "boosting" inverter. They are living on 15 amp service and able to use their air conditioner.
If someone wants to do like they did here is a source for individual cells that would need to be wired to make 4 cell 12 volt 1000 amp hour battery: http://www.balqon.com/store.php#!/~/prod...d=11905253
Much less expensive, they also have this for a bit more: http://www.balqon.com/store.php#!/~/prod...d=13216609
Of course you would also need a Battery Management System to control over charge and over discharge, and possibly a new dedicated charger. But these would cost about $500 total.
I'm researching this now and may do one of either this winter.
forest, ya know i am thinking you should get me a set of these for christmas?

tom
Tom, your location shows Fort Dodge Iowa.
That is where I bought our coach. From Tom Donney.
of Tom Donney Motors.
Hey Tom,
Please put me on your Christmas list.. All I want are a couple of batteries ......
Stay warm in the "Ice Fields"
Ummm, how about the 3 bad batteries? I'll even deliver them.
DEAL !!!! Thanks Forest......I am picking out the "Thank you" card now.
I'm waiting on a quote for a 12volt 1000 amphour battery with the BMS (battery management system) which isolates the battery if overcharged (16 volts) and on over-discharge (11.2v) to protect the battery. It also has a display showing the State of Charge.
The physical size will be 22"x20.4"x14" which will fit if I remove the bottom slide tray in my compartment. This will leave me with the top slide tray for storage and the 2nd battery compartment empty. Total weight will be 400#. Quite a bit of savings. My Freedom 25 should charge the Lithium battery ok, if not then I will buy a separate charger for about $200.
Steve Magown has graciously agreed to let me install it at his shop in October.
Stay tuned!
