Can’t get to 12” ride height. - Gem930 - 11-20-2024

Working on getting ride height correct.  The left rear height control valve seem to only work intermittently and even when working would never get the coach to 12”.  The right side seems to work, but will only ever get to 11.75 inches as well.  11.75 is close enough to 12” to be ok with, but my concern is I have the airbags maxed to get to 11.75.  Stated another way, when I installed the new HCV I held the lever up (prior to connecting it to the bar going to the frame and was only ever able to reach 11.75”.  The engine was running and the pressure was 120psi.  I know the airbags were replaced by the previous owner.  I also know the original bags are not available and an adaptor is required to use the new replacement bags.   My question is are the new replacement bags also shorter?  Anyone else have this problem???

Greg, My coach has slow acting HCVs . They need to cycle a few times to level out. I set them then drive a couple miles to cycle them and the readjust as needed. Be sure to place blocking under the frame while adjusting them.
There are many posts here on bag replacement that include part #s. Do you know the part # of the original bags ? Or the replacement bags?

11.75 Is plenty fine for ride height. The "factory" bags have a max extension height of 13.8 i believe, so that gives you 2 inches of "cushion" or travel before possibly ripping the bags. HCV's can be tricky "finicky" to get set just right. However, if you have one corner that is drastically lower than the rest, then you have an issue. Could be a leaky bag that's under the roll and its hard to find or hear. Could be a number of other issues as well. Without verifying that both bags are the same its hard to say online. If one bag was replaced with a different size that could be an issue as well. Hard to say.

Yes I blocked (cribbed ?) the coach, but I appreciate the reminder. I will crawl back down under to check the numbers tomorrow. But I guess based on your reply you can get the 12”?

Standby!

You said the previous owner replaced the air bags with a non standard part and a spacer was required. What other details do you have about this situation? Part number of the bag used would be CRITICAL to understanding what is going on here.

I do not know this to be true, but IF airbags that are too short are used and they are pumped to their max extension to raise the coach, then you have NO spring at all in the suspension, and it will ride like a wagon.

Also, Can you give detail on the adapter that was required? Was it to fasten the air line or was it to facilitate mounting the bag?

The adaptor was for the airline, not a spacer. Too much information I probably should have left out. I will try to get part numbers shortly.

Where are you measuring the ride height??

RE: Can’t get to 12” ride height. - Richard - 11-21-2024

Oh yeah, if you can get a pic of the airbag at ride height we can see if it is overextended.

I have attached a few pics of the airbag.  It does not  appear there is any kind of an adapter.  I measured the height at 11.75” from the bottom of the body line to the ground directly in front of the wheel.  The bags do appear to have been replaced.
