If it is a windy day and I still want to shade the curb side windows, I will put the awning out just enough to provide the shade. If a high wind arrives, the anemometer (sp?) can cause the awning to close much faster than if the awning was fully extended. A little bit of added safety in speed of closing.

I do the same thing Chester. As long as I am around I will be able to control it the way it best suits me. I have mine set to close at 15 mph. I think that is the lowest setting. Sometimes it is too low.
