Same here Jeff! Thanks Richard! I might have to explore doing this. Mine is still good but freeing up some space under there would be my goal. (Need to build another pit first...)

Gregg asked for quantifiable data.
Here it is. With engine on high idle, in other words about 1000 rpm. dB reading in drivers seat 38 dB, reading two feet directly in line with exhaust tip, 85dB, and reading at the rear of the engine one foot away 85dB. All of this with a free app on the iphone, so perhaps not calibrated. But it gives an idea. I do not know what the readings would be with the stock Donaldson muffler.
My point is the S60 is a loud engine with noises emanating from the block.
I couldn't talk Rhonda into hanging out the bedroom window while I hit the jakes at 65 mph.

I used my iPhone DB meter and measured 102 db 2 feet from the muffler at standard idle and 108 db 2 feet from the muffler at high idle. Of course my muffler is blown out, with giant holes in the bottom, I ordered a Walker 22771 muffler, assuming from the picture that it was a straight through design. As it turns out, it is not. I’m guessing it will probably quiet down considerably, but hopefully not at the loss of much power or MPG. Not sure if I will get it installed before my trip this week. Once I get it installed, I will post DB readings and photos of the muffler.
