sewer connection - ashley - 10-16-2013

Does anyone know of a better gasket than newell for the sewer hose

RE: sewer connection - folivier - 10-16-2013

Steve Bare gave me this idea. He uses foam weatherstripping. Just find some close to the right width and thickness and cut a piece and stick it on. Put the cut ends together at the top.
Works a little better and lasts longer.

Ashley,
I quit using the Dupree gaskets. I now use thin weatherstripping with adhesive backing from Wal*Mart. I put in on the sewer adaptor with the seam at the top. I add a small dab of silicone on the seam and let it dry. I did this at the start of the season and mine is still sealing.

Thank you

I guess I'm dense or something, but I'm not picturing where you're using the foam. Would you mind being a little more descriptive?

The foam gasket is on the face of the sewer connector so when you connect it to the dump valve it makes the seal. The sewer connector has a lock ring that attaches to the dump valve.

Gotcha! Thanks!

We are really impressed with the various technical replies to any and all subjects. I've tried just about any and all the various 3" standard sewer fittings noted on this forum and in the RV industry and still have eventual drips here and there.http://newellgurus.com/images/smilies/blush.gif Having worked in the fossil power and environmental industries for 35 years, I remember there was a lot of use of the camlock type connectors and they never seem to leak no matter what you put through them. I'm seriously thinking of using them on our sewer connections and was wondering if anyone else has had any experience with them.http://newellgurus.com/images/smilies/huh.gif

Thanks in advance for a great forum

The best thing is to buy a piece of 1/4" closed cell foam at any JoAnns Fabrics or any other store you like. I use double face tape and cut to fit. This lasts for a year before it gets compressed and leaks.

I measured things and ordered "o" rings from McMaster. Still on the first "o" ring for over a year. Problem solved for me. Light application of silicone sealer holds it in place.
