Freezing temperatures - homeonwheels - 11-06-2013

I'm coach alone for a week and expecting freezing temperatures tonight. Do I need to be concerned? Do I need to disconnect water? Is there anything I need to do to the coach? Please help. TY! Carol

How far below freezing?
If it is only 25-32 degrees for a fairly short period of time, you should be fine. Hose to shore water may freeze but you should be able to run water pump for water from on board fresh water tank. Shore hose will thaw quickly when sun comes up. Plumbing bay should be heated if you are in coach with heat on. Much colder than that for a longer period of time, I would recommend disconecting shore hose & keep it in heated bay if possible.

I don't think you need to disconnect the hose. Should the hose freeze, as ccjohnson said, just turn on the water pump and use the on board fresh water until the hose unfreezes. Probably need to be sure the water bay heater is turned on to about 50 degrees even though the odds of anything in there freezing with the temps at or below freezing for a short time are nil. The problem comes in when it is below freezing for hours on end, or days on end. Then you need to disconnect the water hose, and keep the water bay heater on all the time.

Thank you for replies. Can't wait to see Oklahoma in rear view mirror in a couple weeks - Florida bound.

Hey Carol why not leave now? James can catch up later!

I did warn him before he left that I may get in some practice driving while he was gone. Maybe get in a race or two with fellow coach drivers I see on the highway. LOL

Carol where are you staying now? At the lake?

With my luck, I'd disconnect the shore hose and run the internal water. The hose would freeze and burst on me! The coach will be fine for an overnight. As has been said, make sure the bay heaters are at least set to come on if needed.

I'm at Keystone State Park, Mannford, Oklahoma. Oh, we have bay heaters? I need to get out the manual and read up, not sure how to turn them on. Luckily, freezing temps gone for a few days until first of the week. Thanks for all the comments. The gurus forum is great - nice to have access to like-minded, knowledgeable folks to turn to for help. I appreciate everybody. Carol

In your basement compartment where the aquahot is there should be a thermostat. Set that to 50 degrees and never worry again. At least on our old coaches that's where it is.
