STRANGE NOISE - Brad Townsend - 03-22-2014

I don't think it is an air issue but...
For the last few days there is a constant creaking sound coming from the front passenger side wheel well area. Sounds like the coach is settling but yesterday I dumped the air and it was still there. Very frustrating to be sitting here listening to this sound. Wondering if anyone out there has had the same thing. I even pulled out the generator in-case it was something with the air piston that pushes out the unit.

Ok Brad....It's a LONG SHOT but. Could there be enough of a breeze that your squirrel cage fan is gently rocking back and forth?
Or , maybe you should check........there could be a squirrel in the squirrel cage fan B-) ...

RE: STRANGE NOISE - lbrachfe - 03-22-2014

Sounds like it could be a shock starting to leak

Animals behind dash? I hope not! But it has happened before.

RE: STRANGE NOISE - 77newell - 03-22-2014

Does it make noise regardless of whether or not you are moving around in the coach? If it only makes noise with movement I would suspect the suspension, no idea what exactly. There are rubber bumpers inside the airbags that prevent metal-to-metal contact when the bags are deflated. It occurs to me that the rubber may allow enough movement even when deflated for the noise to be created in the suspension somewhere.

To clarify. I was referring to the squirrel cage fan that vents the generator compartment. On my '93 it is in the compartment directly ahead of the passenger wheel.

Not the squirrel cage nor wind and not us walking around as we are outside and still hear the sound.
It does have the same sound as it sometimes does when walking around. But remember I dumped the air and it stayed the same. As for the shock, I put my head in the wheel well on both sides to get a better idea as to the location and it seems like it is mid way behind the generator. Isn't there an air tank there? But I drained the air!
To metallic/suspension sounding to be a critter I believe. Sitting hear counting the seconds between the sound to see if there is a pattern.. Count 10-15 seconds (closer to 10 seconds) then sound, do this maybe 5 times then sound again about 2 seconds later then starts over again. That how regular it is.

Brad: wow, you have a unique issue. On my 77 coach I had a sound that may, and I emphasize MAY, be related. My front air tank had a valve on the top that allowed it to be refilled from the supply tank in the rear but not allow air to flow the other way, a check valve of sorts but it didn't look like the typical check valve. The sound was a "eeeeEET" rising in pitch with a sharp cutoff as indicated by the "T". It would repeat this sound as the tank repressurized. I didn't have a 120v pump so the tank would completely deplete when camping. One way to tell if this is perhaps your case would be to shut off any air pressure supply and see if the sound eventually stops and if the brake pressure indicator drops.

Did you dump the air on the engine side if the system? Thus can be done by pumping your break pedal with the engine off. It sure sounds like a check valve that is leaking. If you dump the air on your bags, the chassis side and dump your aux jar and it's gone then I suspect a check valve. I would bring aux air back on first then chassis air then bags. Had a similar issue with a bluebird I had.

Neve released the air brakes. Will try again and make sure everything is empty.
Thanks guys for the help.
