Bus door strut - Yachts - 05-03-2014

One of my bus door struts on the fuel bay bent and broke. I'm sure it's an easy fix . Anyone ever done it?

You need one of these handy dandy strut tools: http://newellgurus.com/Thread-Gas-spring-tool?highlight=strut
(thanks to Steve Bare for designing this)
They make it an easy 5 minute job. Without the tool it is hard to compress the strut to install it.

I'll have one with me at the rally. Any one is welcome to use it.

Forest,
You have a good place to purchase the struts?

RE: Bus door strut - folivier - 05-06-2014

I've bought a few from here: http://columbiastruts.com/Gas-Spring-Strut-List-Specs.html
Just need to get the specs from your old strut and match up. Since the fuel bay door is smaller it might be this one: https://columbiastruts.com/Columbia-Struts-CS2000-120.html
The 150# one is used on the larger doors. Not a bad idea to have a few spares.

I had to replace all my struts after I bought my coach. I bought them all from Motor Homes of Texas, and replaced them myself. Most of them were 150 lbs. for the bays and the ones over the passenger and drivers seat I don't remember the poundage but much less. The poundage will be on the side of the struts. Call Allen or Bruce at MOT.

The large bay doors should be 150# struts and the narrower doors should be 120#. The smaller ones on the overhead console doors are 30#.

If anyone finds them cheaper please let us know. When I bought mine late last year they were the cheapest price I found.
