I'm alone in the coach! - nuevomex - 02-27-2015

Hi guys. Well, Gary is in Boston, MA and I am in the coach in OKC. Where, it is 18 degrees. He is in the middle of an important meeting and I'm sure he'll call when he's finished but I just thought I would post here.  The thermostat went out yesterday and Newell overnighted a new one which I am eagerly awaiting. I slept fully clothed, kept an eye on the bay temp, interior temp, had a portable electric heater going full blast all night, and thank you god, did not wake up frozen stiff!  Wink About an hour ago I heard a loud sorta bang/thud which I think came from the middle of the coach on the PS, probably from one of the bays.. Maybe it was just something falling over in one of the bays? So then nature calls and I realize there is no water in the toilet. I turned on the auxilary pump and had water from the kitchen faucet. (I had not checked before I turned on the aux but I think it was probably okay.) Then I went to the toilet and tried to flush it, as I said, nature called. No sound at all from the toilet. I pressed the lever and nothing. Perhaps a fuse?  And if so, where is it? And if it's outside, FORGET IT.

Thanks, Susie (slowly freezing in Oklahoma City).....why, oh why, did we leave Key West???

PS. I just turned off the aux pump and I still have water. Just nothing in the toilet.

Susie does the toilet flush? It is probably air operated and not electric. If it does flush you could go old school and keep a full bucket handy.

No, it doesn't flush at all. Yep, I could keep a bucket handy. So if it's air operated what does that mean? Why isn't it making any noise at all when I push the lever?  My most important problem is keeping the bays from freezing. Newell told me they are on a seperate thermostat but the temp is down to about 54 and dropping. Sure wish that thermostat would get here. Thanks, Forrest

It probably didn't get cold enough (yet) to break anything. If you have an incandescent light fixture you could put in the water bay that would help to keep it warm.
It could be an air problem if the toilet doesn't flush. Do the air doors inside work? Make sure you're outside of the door when you check it. Don't want you to have to climb out of a window Smile

Nope, air doors don't work. I am now a prisoner in my coach.  Sad darn. Now what. I remember when they first showed us the coach and went over everything an there was some valve next to the door in a lower cabinet. So, if I use that to open the coach door does it then make it manual? And can I close it again?

Maybe that's what that sound was I heard??

I'm calling Newell.

Valve for entry door is in cabinet under kitchen counter next to door. Turn that valve and door should release trapped air and you can push it open. You can lock the door from the outside using the 2 key holes. But Tom said that to make sure you unlock the 2 locks before you restore air to the coach. So just leave the valve closed until that is fixed.
Sounds like you have an air leak and probably what you heard. Coach is probably unlevel?
Stay warm!

I talked to Mike Ellis at Newell and he said to just start the coach and let the air fill up again. Which I did and it did. So, easy fix! Now if I'd just get that thermostat! (and joy of joys!!! The toilet flushes!)

okay, thermostat came and I plugged it in and the display kept saying EE. None of the buttons were operable. Called Newell and they're stumped. They think it might be some kind of electrical problem. There is a solution but it involves wires, alligator clips and ELECTRICITY, (with a possible minor shock I was told). To me, there are NO minor shocks. It would also involve going back and forth outside to control the temp. I am just going to buck up tonight and tomorrow and hopefully get to Miami Sunday eve. BUT there is an ice storm coming in tomorrow afternoon, so Gary may not even be able to get back from Boston. woe is me!!
