Kwikee Steps Not Deploying - WSallai - 08-25-2016

Hello, All.

Previous owner said that his step would occasionally not deploy if the battery voltage was 15VDC when it went up last.  It effectively overdrove the step into the retracted position.  Well, it happened to me and I cannot figure out how to get it to deploy on my 1996 (#416).

I tried having the GenSet off and the ignition in the ON position and then opening the door.  If I push the door jamb limit switches in I can here some clicking going on underneath the coach and the step light is on.

Any ideas on how to deploy it?  I suppose I am lucky that it is not the other way around, not being able to retract it!

Thanks & Best Regards,

Bill & Jimmy

they are pretty simple.

first thing i would do is make sure they are lubricated well. they can bind up when not used or lubed for a long time.

next is to follow the troubleshooting in the manual.

I apologize in advance if this is something you obviously tried. If indeed the steps "jam" because of high voltage aka high torque on the DC motor, have you attempted to pull them out when the door is open?

As Tom said lubrication of all the hinges is critical. Also when you do get them out, look at them from an alignment standpoint. It is easy for the coach to sit on them, or to drag them and bend the arms. Misalignment puts the motor in a real bind.

Some of the links on Power Gears website have changed. Try http://www.lci1.com/support-power-gear-steps http://www.lci1.com/support-power-gear-steps and http://www.lci1.com/assets/content/support/sheets/pg-Step-Troubleshooting-Flow-Chart.pdf

I have had this problem with coaches I have owned in the past. If none of the above suggestions work, check to see of the gear is stripped. The clicking noise leads me to this question.

I just changed the motor in mine due to stripped plastic gear.Partial deployment in and out with clicking noise.
