RE: Garmin Dezl 760LMT - Chester Stone - 03-25-2013

Bill, if it is convenient, please post a photo of your mounting location. I am trying to determine if it will pick up the signal when mounted overhead near the tire monitor and generator switches. I want to replace my Rand-McNaley 7710 since it is hard to see the screen on a bright day. I have posted a photo showing where I would mount the Garmin.

Here is the current mounting arrangement...The GPS is on right and backup monitor on left. The suction cup that came with the unit really wants to hold onto the formica laminate. Also, I have a cigarette lighter receptacle plugged into the AC outlet behind the TV. That way I did not have to run a 12v wire to the GPS. I just plugged in the GPS to that receptacle.

ps. Not sure how to rotate picture to correct angle. sorry.

Bill, thanks for the photo. I am encouraged that the Garmin works in that location. I feel more comfortable replacing my Rand-McNaley 7710 with the Dezl rather than upgrading to the 7720. Please keep up posted if you detect routing errors. I have had several errors with the 7710.

Unit #3 just arrived. I purchased it from Cabelas because they have a 60 day return policy. Best Buy recently shortened their return policy to 15 days on all electronics. I'm not going to download any maps until I have time to use it. So far so good.

Good luck Steve!

I hated my Magellan and needed something at least a little more RV friendly. I have seen it do weird routing twice now, but in both cases, I knew better. I like the user interface.

The rear-view camera display option is a little weird. If you plug a video signal into the thing (with optional cable), it will automatically switch to video preview mode. Not very good for our setup where the rear camera is "on" all the time.

I will keep you all posted as I learn / experience more.

I like to map my routes on my computer using MapSource. That way I know I'm using truck routes. I then transfer them to the Dezl, no problem. It transfers the routes & waypoints. I only let the gps route trips in the tow vehicle. This approach has worked for me over the long run.

I just planned the trip to Spearfish. No problems adding the stops. Worked well to OKC today.
Now to play with it a while.

Jimmy,
Once you get yours figured out I'll let you give me a lesson. I tried letting it route me to Newell and it took me through downtown Eureka Springs, which as you know is not the way to go.

Yes but it would be a challenge & you would need an escort. I don't charge much!!
