Electrical Panel L1-L2 Lights On Shore Power? - Wanderman - 08-08-2021

Today, I noticed that my L1-L2 120V and 240V indicator lights on the primary electrical panel were off even though I was plugged into shore power. The dash "Shore Power" light was on and the meter's were reading 120V on both L1 and L2.

Starting the Generator and letting it transfer garnered me all the light on properly.

The only thing that is ODD is I am using adapters to go from the 50 AMP 240V shore power cord down to a measly 15 AMP regular extension cord plug (albeit a heavy duty one) Polarity is OK.

I just received the 50 AMP 240V receptacle and will be wiring that up next week, but until then....any reason the lights aren't working?

Thanks,

A 120 vac, 20 amp power plug is only suppling one leg of a two leg service. It take both legs to have 240 vac, so no 240 vac light.

Right, but I have NO lights at all.

Very likely the lights could be burned out

All lights work on generator power.

So not out.

My lights on the overhead panel are a little wonky when plugged into 30 amp in garage. They work great on generator and on 50 amp pedestal at RV parks. But my volt and amp meters work all the time.

CC,
That's what i was thinking... the weird adapter chain i am using to power it off a 15 amp 120v source might be playing havoc with the lights.

I have a 50 AMP 240v receptacle being installed this week, so will see if it works on that before doing any additional diagnostics

Is your adapter chain off the shelf or home made?

Just curious, how do you know the polarity is correct? Looking at the indicator light or checked with a meter?

Richard,
The daisy chain adapters are off the shelf Walmart ones from Camco. Polarity at the outlet is checked with a meter.
