Tank rinse system re-repair - Wanderman - 03-11-2022

Hey All,
  When i first got my coach, I had an open threaded hole on the top of my waste tank. Turned out it was for the tank rinse system that directs hose water to either the top or bottom of the tank to rinse it out.  It had been epoxied back into the side of the tank at some point.
Well I was looking at something else and notices that it had separated again.

Are these ABS tanks? Any suggestions on the best epoxy or other repair goo to use?

I have rigged up a support system for this rather long and heave assembly so it shouldn't happen again... maybe!

Rick,
My tanks are Polyurethane a white slick feeling plastic. Not much will stick to it hence the epoxy coming loose. I don't have a fitting leaking as of yet but did investigate what would be a fix. I've used Uniseal fittings before, they work well on un-pressurized tanks.
Also look at plastic welding using a piece of the same plastic. The welders are cheap.

Looks like the proper way is to spin weld on a new bung.... Wow, the spin weld fittings are cheap but the welding attachment (drill, router, etc) is pricey for a single repair.

I did find:

G/Flex 655 Epoxy

Allegedly this will work on our tanks.. Still looking for additional information.

I have a plastic welder already (connect air supply, electric heating element)

Access is pretty tight in there as well. This is the top fitting on the curb side. In my coach it's in the aquahot bay. I may have already posted a picture or two here.

It is not going to stick. The tanks are mid molecular weight polyethylene polymer. Slicker than snot to adhesives. Epoxies, even ones with less modulus ( rigidity) like G/Flex don’t bite on the slick surface.

Either spin weld it, or look for some sort of flange that compresses against a gasket.

If they're polypropylene, like a bunch of tanks out there, Loctite has a glue that does work. I got it at Home Depot and reglued a drain fitting on a water tank in my last rig. It worked very well. It was specifically for polypropylene and other very hard to glue plastics.
