So I have been chasing an elusive air leak for the longest time. Today I happen to find it by accident under the bay while looking for a missing front salon electric heater. There is a solenoid there for what should have been a step cover. I do not have a step cover on my coach as it seems it may have been removed. Can somebody post a pic of what I am missing? I will repair the leak with a compression fitting. I also found what appears to be some previous source of major heat that melted the insulation in one of the bays.

Are you sure it has been removed?
My step cover is hidden when not in use. I pulled it out a little way to make it more visible.

I have a semi operating step cover.. I know I have to work on it, but for the life of me cannot find where the mechanism is! Newell told me it was under the sink cabinet false bottom. I removed the bottom and all that is there is the heat exhanger and fan... I have a feeling it's leaking as well....
My coach is "backwards" the kitchen is on the Driver's side....

Yeah, mine has been removed. When I bought the coach someone put in a flip down piece of oak to cover the steps. I found some wiring that looks like it has been hacked. Need to check to make sure there is no power to these. I also found one toe kick heater that was removed in the salon but they left the live wiring intact. Had to disconnect the live wires. Unbelievable. Learning more and more each day.

That's scary.

I have a similar layout as you. I checked under the false panel under the kitchen sink and also have a heater. Did you ever find the mechanism, and how do you get to it? I here a solenoid click, but the slide does not move. By hand, the slide moves easily. Thanks

And why did they cut the wires so short?

I don’t have hands on knowledge of either situation. But let’s start with the location and how to access. I would start with which direction does the sliding floor move? Why, this seems obvious, but I have seen those that move in and out from the center of the coach, and a few that retracted sideways to the front or back of the coach.
If it moves to the center, then go in from the opposite side and start removing the ceiling in the basement. That is the only way to access.
If it slides under the kitchen counters , only then is the access through the hatch in the cabinets.

My step cover mechanism was actually above my battery bay foil insulation. It was a pretty long air cylinder.

My air cylinder was over the propane tank which was on the opposite side of the bus. Left to right. Yours might be right to left. I do know that it was easy to access if the floor was removed on the inside.
