Refrigerator not cooling on generator - B and C - 06-16-2022

Finally (yeah) picked up coach after having generator rebuild and re-install.  The generator is running fine, both basement a/cs are running normal on generator but the refrigerator is not coming on.  The fridge lights come on when the door is open but the compressor does not engage.  It was cooling fine on electric before re-installing the generator.  Being a newbie to Newell, am I missing something or is the fridge on the fritz?  I will be back in the coach tomorrow afternoon and will attempt to check it again when on the generator.  It is not plugged in at this moment.....having a cut tire replaced.  Any suggestions would be helpful.   Huh

If the light comes on in the fridge then you do not have a power supply problem to the fridge. There is only one plug for the fridge.

Do you have the original Amana, or has it been replaced with something else?

Is it possible the thermostat has been switch to off in the fridge?

Thanks Richard.  It could be the original Amana but I am not absolutely sure.  I am missing a number of service records for the first 12-13 years.  On that note, I will check that first thing tomorrow when I pick the coach up.  I had the freezer thermostat off and the refrigerator as low as it would go as there was no off on the fridge side.  Would there be a reset on the compressor which was tripped while they were running and setting up the generator?  I am not a big one for coincidences but I guess it could have given up the ghost during this time.  It was off for 2 1/2 weeks while they installed the generator and repaired a few other items.
Thanks again.

Brandi & Chris,

I wonder if the freezer thermostat having the on/off option is the main controller for the compressor and the refridgerator thermostat only controls the temperature in the fridge part IFF (in high school this was if and only if) the freezer thermostat is on.
Does your freezer thermostat have a temperature range as well as on/off?

Hank called it. Freezer off kills the whole shebang. BTW, I confirmed this by turning off the fridge this morning.

If it is an Amana, there is no reset on the compressor. There is a thermal overload in the compressor which automatically resets. If you think this is happening, watch you amp meters carefully when you first turn the fridge on, one of them will spike, the compressor will hum loudly, and then stop. The amp meter will go down when it stops.

This is great info as we have the Amana fridge as well and did not know the logic.....thanks

Thanks for the help. Looked at the off setting on the freezer switch and didn't think twice it might be the culprit but sure enough. Now working fine. Yes, it does appear to be the original Amana unit. Thanks again to everyone.
Safe travels.

my original failed in 2013. so you are doing great to have one last 20 years.

i was able to take the doors off and get it out the mid bode entrance door.

Tom, What brand and model did you replace your Amana with?  Where you able to use your original decorative laminate
panels?

RE: Refrigerator not cooling on generator - encantotom - 06-19-2022

you will never be able to use the laminate. i measured the opening and depth etc and then shopped for a counter depth fridge that fit. i ended up with a kitchenaid.

the solenoid lock also did not work with it and i just use a length of velcro to hold the two side by side doors together and it works great.

i had to extend the floor part of the opening to fit the new fridge.

as with any mod or change you will have to adjust for your situation.

we also made a plywood and 2x4 platform to put in front of the fridge (on a rug) so the fridge could slide onto it, then pull the platform with the fridge on it into the opening in front of the door where there was more room. then take it off the platform (4 of us) , take the doors off and take it out the mid door (with very little clearance).
