http://www.rvupgradestore.com/SilverLeaf-VMSPC-p/vmspc.htm is the best price. cheaper than buying from silverleaf.

however, they do not list either the 12 pin rectangular plug or the pigtail version so you would need to call and ask them for it. the 6 and 9 pin round will not work with your setup.

the plug is a bit in the way, so i tapped into the 4 wires on the back of the plug and hardwired it in.

there are only 4 wires that are used. one is data +, another is data -, then 12v power and ground

there are two ways to power the usb port, one is from the laptop and the other from the ignition. on some laptops (like mine) it saw that having the laptop power it as well as the ignition switch as a power problem and would shut the laptop off immediately. only some of the newer chipsets do that (i have a new ivy bridge laptop)

if that happens, then you take the lid off of the vmspc and there is a jumper you remove and that only allows it to be powered one way and walla, it worked fine.

Wouldn't it work to just buy the pigtail version and hardwire it? Seems like it would be just as easy, of the 6 wires on the diagnostic connector how do I determine which 4?

On my '93 I used the pigtail version and hard wired it like tom did. On my '98 I bought the plug and just used that.
I don't think they have the plug available for the early '90s

they do have that plug. you just have to have them call silverleaf.

i agree that hardwiring it in is the cleanest. however i carry the 12 pin plug on a calbe and the 9 pin on a cable as well. just in case need to help someone out.
