I purchased a VS 227 valve which has different orientation. I ended up rotating the internal part of the valve on the existing one, thus confused as to the operation when the swar bar moves- in other words when the bar is moved upwards, is that filling the bags  and down releasing air out the exhaust port. matters as the valve internal can be rotated 180 degrees  and the arm can be installed. I used the old arm on the new valve.  

Why did I choose this valve? someone else on guru used it and it was 25 % the cost of the oem one.

Yes bar up should fill bags. Bar down should release air.
