Antifreeze - Jrahn56 - 08-27-2025

I am in the process of replacing the radiator in my coach #375. What type.of antifreeze should I use for replacement?

Thank you,

Jeff

What color was in it? Unless you drain the entire system and then flush it out a couple times it's best to stick with the same color you had. That said it's an older coach and my guess would be green. My very best guess would say yellow jugs of Prestone.

Antifreeze was green. I flushed the entire system with 5 gallons Fleetpride radiator flush for an hour and drained the system and removed the radiator, all hoses, and waterpump. I was wondering if it was straight Antifreeze or Diluted 50/50.

Thanks,
Jeff

50/50 if you don't get outside temps below -20F. 60/40 from -20 to -50F. And use 70/30 If your crazy enough to be colder than that. Whatever color you go with when you get the chance I would recommend keeping the generator with the same coolant. Easier to just have a gallon for spare and no confusion as to what goes where. My Aquahot also has the same coolant as the fresh water coil is wrapped around the outside of the tank and can not come in contact with the coolant.
Personally I run shell red coolant in everything.

Thank you.

So I will tell you if you put green coolant in, you need to use a supplemental additive, SCA. I use Detroit powercool in mine, this is a glycol based coolant just like the green and will not be a problem to mix with green coolant and it already has the SCAs in it. You have to be very careful with other coolants like OAT based coolants mixing with glycol based coolants as they will gel when mixed. Final Charge is readily available at most auto parts stores, just make sure you are getting the glycol based formula with SCAs. I buy premix just for convenience and that way I know the ratio is correct. Bad coolant can cause thousands of dollars in damage, so spending a few extra bucks on coolant is cheap insurance in my book.

The color of coolants can be confusing at times, best to look at the back of the bottle and make sure what the product is.
