re-attaching bay door skins - Pluto - 10-31-2025

Just wanted to share a project that I completed today.

I decided to fix a couple of bay door skins that had started to come loose.  The wet bay door had started sagging and the small door next to it was coming loose at the bottom.   I wasn't for sure how difficult of a job it was going to be so I started on the larger one and got it finished first.

At first I thought I could do it with the frame still attached to the coach but ended up removing it to make things a lot easier.

Removing the old double sided tape was the toughest part but by the second door I had a pretty good system.

Once both sides of the aluminum mating surfaces were clean, I had Hannah help me set the frame onto the skin.  Once the tape touches the joining surface there's no going back so it had to be perfectly aligned .

Total cost was about $150, the 3M tape was $125 and the roloc disks about $25.

Good job Tyler and Hannah! Are the moldings on the outside still tight? I had several loose ones. I suppose from the door dropping closed when there were items in the bay opening.

Thanks! Yeah all of the moldings are tight on the exterior. I replaced all of the lift cylinders a few months ago so we haven't had any problems with the doors dropping down.

I will say that I've gotten a few nasty scratches on my back from not getting clear of the fold up style doors below the slides before standing up. Newell left some seriously sharp corners on them!

Looks great, when I did mine I used panel bond. I promise they will never come off again..

Its nice to see the lines of of the coach line up again and no more water intrusion. Just finished another door on the Newell before we left for Florida. Everybody who owns one of our vintage will or has experienced this issue.

I thought about getting some of that panel bond to use in addition to the 3m molding tape. If we have any issues with the tape holding, I will use some of that next time.

Yeah, having one door sitting crooked and messing with the lines of the coach was driving me crazy. Luckily it was a recent development so I didn't have to look at it for long.
