120 volt compressors won’t start automatically - Larry - 04-08-2026

my 120 V air compressors won’t start automatically. I have checked all of the fuses and breakers and the GFI‘s that I could find. They will manually turn on by switching switch number one on the main Newell board. Any ideas where else I can look for an issue

If it runs when you switch it on manually, but not on automatic then I would definitely suspect the air pressure switch. I'm not sure where that is on your unit but that is where I'd start

should have a well pressure switch where the air compressors are. if you take the cover off it and take a wood stick and pressure the relay contacts down and it starts, then the pressure switch is bad.

Yep, at least that's the way it is on my 86. The switch is right on the 120V pump and it looks identical to a water pressure switch on a well. Plastic cover with a nut about center. Be careful once the cover is removed. If the power is on, then one side of the contacts will be energized and if the pressure drops below the switch's set point it should close and energize the pump. If it doesn't, it's an easy fix to just replace the pressure switch. You can test it by manually pressing the contacts together, but use a reasonable amount of caution here. Some pumps are 240 volts and can give you quite a shock.

What do you mean it will manually turn on but not automatically? When power is switched on does it air up then turn off automatically? I'm dyslexic so bare with me.

I think on the newer Newells the 120 volt compressors are controlled by a silverleaf panel
