Stuck in PA (Lord's Valley) with bad Brake Valve - Wanderman - 09-12-2026

We made it about 100 miles on our trip to Dayton OH and got stopped by a stalled tractor trailer in traffic for 2 hours. I lost all but 30psi of brake pressure so when the road opened I couldn't leave and was stuck between two Jersey barriers.. so now I was the obstacle!. We managed to generate enough PSI temporarily, to get us to a pull off. And then we bypassed the valve and caged the brakes to get us to the tow/repair yard and spent the night.

Now we've spent hours trying to get the last of the four bolts off the failed valve.

I believe it's a Bendix R-14H but am not 100% sure. And we're not sure where to source one Today/tomorrow. If I have to order online, I could be stuck here until Tuesday.

Can anyone assist. Help!

A hack is to just remove the bottom bolts on the valve body and replace the internals with internals from a new relay.

Go to NAPA for the new one.

Thanks. But the bolts are on the top (in the orientation Newell installed it) we managed to get it out after a major wrestling match. Now have to source one and figure out a better way of mounting it so it doesn't take 4 hours to install! It uses two of the top bolts to mount to a plate welded to a chassis member, but no room to get to the top.

So when I had this issue the air was pouring out from the bottom valve. I just pulled the snap ring out and put the one from the new valve on so I did not have to remove the entire thing. Its just the bottom spitter plastic part that cracks and starts leaking. I just took whatever valve I could get at the closest Napa when mine happened and put me on the side of the road, since I just used the plastic part on the bottom the crack pressure did not matter. I left the other internals inside.  

FYI the most used crack pressure is 4.0psi and should be the most readily available. The crack pressure is usually on a metal tag on it. 
From what I can see its a Bendix T-294868 which is a 4.0psi crack pressure. 4868

No problem, I have a fresh memory of burning rubber from my tires rubbing because I was losing air so quickly! Give it time and I will forget all about it. Haha

Of course, since Murphy IS and Optimist, I have already pulled out the unit. Would have saved MANY hours and $$$ had I known it was that simple. Ah well. I will still see if I can get one tomorrow. I wonder if the rebuild kit has all the parts???
