well, i got the wd live box and i must agree with macgrg, it works great. mine has a small problem and wd is going to replace it, but no big deal.

it is very small, and has 2 usb port, an hdmi, network port, wifi builtin, and another set of video/audio outputs.

it also has CEC (a protocol for device to work together for remote control).

i plugged in a usb stick and a portable usb hdd. i had dts 5.1 movies in 1080p on the drive as well as pictures and mp3 music.

it indexes them the first time you plug the drive in and that takes a little while, but once that is done it is fast.

i watched a movie in full dts surround and in 1080p and it was just like watching a dvd. music is great too.

picture viewing is ok but a little awkward.

it also can view youtube or netflix etc.

my favorite youtube video is Closer to the Heart by Rush.

i ordered another portable hdd to use with it today from newegg... a 1tb one.

the whole setup is easily moved into the coach from the house. or i may buy another one, not sure.

Tom is that Rush who is being inducted into the Rock N Roll hall of fame this year? I did not take you for a "Today's Tom Sawyer" sort of guy.

Curious as to how this works. How are the movies downloaded while on the road and is this a HDMI playback drive?

Amazon has the best product description: http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-St...=wdtv+live

You just hook up an external drive to it, or hook it up to a network and it will discover available network shares. It can play virtually any media type (video, pics, music, etc.)
