Help Identifying Year and Model
#21

I would guess it's a 1982 based on the taillights and the generator cover. Clarke Hockwald on this site has an 82 that looks similar. As Michael said look for the VIN, which should be on the lower inside wall right next to the door. We have an 84 in the exact same color scheme. Our taillights are higher and we have a solid door over the generator access area.

You said it's 3 hours away. I had mine put on a trailer and towed 250 miles to my house for under $2k. That's what I would do.

So I just clarified with my uncle. It has a Cummins 903 in it and not a 6v92. Does anyone know anything about the Cummins 903 because it looks like most of you have a 6V92 in your early 80’s models.

Newell used the 903 at least between 1981 (and a few 1980 models) and 1986 for those customers who preferred Cummins to Detroit. The 933 replaced the Cummins 555 which Newell used as their Cummins powerplant from 1973 through much of 1980.

Do you know if reliability is better or worse than a 6v92. It certainly looks like more 6v92’s were used than Cummins 903’s. It’s much harder to find videos or instructions on this Cummins.

One of my customers ran 903's in their drilling rigs for years. They were very reliable and ran for brazilions of hrs.

I just posted several Cummings diesel engine manuals for you. These cover Cummings 903 engines.
