I think that would prevent serious damage to the fresh water tank, but no reason to use it routinely as the safety measure. You are totally correct in worrying about the effect of even small amounts of pressure on large surfaces. Lets say the side of the tank is 2 ft by 8 ft equaling 16 square feet equaling 2304 square inches. At 30 psi water pressure that equates to 69000 lbs of force on the side of the tank.

You guys might want to look carefully at the piping on top of the fresh water tank. Mine has an overflow pipe. If you overfill it just runs on the ground in my rig

Mine has an overflow also, and it does work.....I know from personal experience.
