I called Newell who said ZF axle did not come with diff lock. said lifting tag can help increase traction in snow. said he was unaware of anyone using chains. we have a foot of snow in foothills of Denver, never driven in snow.

Carl, are you running on severe service tires up there, or just 16 ply?
Also, if I need to run on chains for a minute, is it worth while to reduce pressure in the tires?

I ran H rated tires, little better but not the severe service. Most of the severe service tires have a super hard rubber compound that actually sucks on ice. As for letting the air down i never found it to be worth it for short trips. If i was going to be running up the Dalton for a couple weeks in a row i would air them down by 10 pounds.

We're planning to go to Tuk in middle to late June this summer and wondering if you have any experience on the Dempster.

I have not been on that highway, I believe its dirt and rough, very rough. I would recommend a spare tire or 2 and a couple airbags just in case. Perhaps Canada maintains it better that Alaska does on the Dalton. I would imagine its very similar though, lots of muddy and wet areas that could be quite soft. As for the Dalton, those of us that have had the displeasure of driving it in the summer would much prefer it in the winter when its frozen. I personally hate the mud!

I drove my Silverado up to Wiseman and across Atigun pass in summer 2019 and agree. It was very muddy.
We'll be driving either a 1 ton pickup with truck camper or a Jeep Wrangler. Doubt if we take our coaches up that far.

So I tried snow socks , did not work on slight hill. Bought regular twisted chain with camlocks. Performed great. No interference
Now stuck in Amarillo leaking hydraulic. Another post.

I've never used socks, but Professional drivers seem to love them. Cam locks are great, just make sure they are tight.
