Had another water leak from our Dometic DN 1070 undercounter icemaker. The leak was in the bend in the plastic line where it goes through the sheetmetal under the cooling fan. The thin plastic water line was leaking at the sheetmetal hole. Poor engineering, poor selection of materials.

The hardware guy recommended a house standard stainless braided 1/4" rubber lined ice maker line.
The part number was a 121M72 for the 72" line that I bought. The problem is the new connections will not go through the old line holes.

I ordered a Harfington sheet metal hole punch 28.3 mm from Amazon for about $21, and removed the fan from the cabinet. Five screws out will free the whole fan, unplug the wires and remove the fan and housing. Remove the old plastic insulator and insert the hole punch bolt, thread the end of the punch on the bolt and tighten. A racheting 18 mm wrench fits nicely into the cavity to tighten the punch until the hole is enlarged. Three 3/4" grommets with the outside grooves filled with silicone were installed in the three newly enlarged holes. There is a hole in the back cabinet metal, the one under the fan and the one in the front where the line goes to the water valve. The 18mm wrench will fit in all three spots.

Rubber gloves are good when slipping the siliconed grommets into the enlarged sheetmetal holes. In addition, I bought a piece of clear plastic tubing just big enough to allow the braided hose connections to slide through. The size for me just barely fit through the rubber grommets. That should stop water line chafing permanently. (The end of the waterline is just wrapped into the unit so it is not on the floor.)

All,
On our current coach our Splendide Washer/Dryer combo unit was making a loud banging noise during the spin cycle. The unit was level and all attachments were tied back and nothing was touching the unit. After removing it from the coach and investigating the WD unit found the attachment bolts on the concrete counterweight loose. Once tight the machine is back to sounding new. I removed the unit from the coach but one could build a platform to slide the WD unit clear of the cabinet and remove the top (two screws) to gain access to these bolts. I have never had this happen to any of our machines over the years so this was a first for me.

Our Amana refrigerator has quit cooling on both the freezer and refrigerator sides. We may try to have it repaired but will most likely just replace it.

The issue we're having with finding a new replacement is that our cut out is only 69 inches high and it seems most new refrigerators are between 70 and 72 inches tall.

We have a drawer under the frig cut out that holds cutting boards, sheet pans and such that I may be be able to modify in order to accommodate the taller refrigerators.

Has anyone had to lower the base where the refrigerator mounts in order to fit a taller model?

It doesn't look like it will be difficult but I could be wrong.

Thanks

For those of us having the older Dometic DN1070 under counter ice maker, my repair guy has a good solution.

If the unit is still cooling, but leaking water, or making bad ice, or no ice, he has a good solution. He identified the ice maker itself as a Whirlpool made item. Our coach, a 1991 # 277's ice maker had 1989 date on it. It was leaking water and making bad ice, sometimes.

My repairman installed a new Whirlpool part # 1129313 ice maker which includes a new water valve. You'll need thermo-conductive mastic or RTV to seat the ice maker on the cold plate. You do have to butt splice the harness together. You'll use the old connector and part of the harness with part of one of the new harnesses provided to fabricate the new connector harness. He said to just match the colors, green to green, white to white etc. The new harness will slip in from the rear and plug right into the new maker in the box.

Now, lots of ice and NO water in the ice box! Just clean ice.

What happens is the gearbox on the motor will shed a tooth or two and the cam will just stop moving which may keep the water flowing, or the heater on, or just stop all actions. In any event, the new ice maker will correct that all of those problems.

He ordered from a parts place in Chicago.

If you have cooling problems, I think he said the compressors are still made in Brazil.

Nice to have ice!

Well after I almost burned the coach to the ground on our last trip I’m swapping out the current cooktop for an induction and need a better understanding on how to wire 120 when there is currently 240.

Also want to figure out if it can be run via inverter?

And no, current cooktop did not cause almost fire…the idiot who had a burner knob set on 9 with a closed lid did. It was almost a bad deal. Thankfully Corian has a high combustion point. Finding a piece of 20 year old bone colored Corian hat been the toughest part.

My automatic power transfer switch failed earlier this year. One of the injuries was the dishwasher.
I went to the dealer I purchased it from and spoke with their well respected parts counter person. She recommended I replace the power controller, MOD WASH Controller, and the knock sensor to the tune of $350-$400. Her lead times were about 3 weeks. Then told me I should replace the entire dishwasher because after something like this there will be phantom failures. That would be at least $1,000.

I read the reviews of the power controller board on a site that sold parts many F&P replacement parts. One person mentioned they had a power event like mine and replacing just this board fixed it. So I ordered the board for $179 plus tax and had it in a couple of days. The install was easy after I realized I had to retract the sliders before attaching the front panel back on.

Tools needed, 4mm Allen wrench, long Phillips #2 screwdriver, longnose pilers. Maintenance manual is excellent with one exception. The evaporator screws had to be removed to allow the new heater bottom end and the brown wire to go under the evaporator.
Happen to know of a particular model number and maker of a fridge that will fit in thru the door of the coach ? coach # 480. side entry door... Hoping Richard has had to do this and will have some input. Been looking thru the threads but never found anybody who has kicked out a model # and manufacturer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Did find some info that people were saying to remove the drawer assy under the fridge and set the new one on the ground, anybody tried this yet ?

The old Amana refrigerator worked but the amp meter jumped every time it came on, we are working on going with more energy efficient units so we can get to coach to work off the sun without running the generator. The new unit is quite and the amp meter barely moves when its running, its much smaller than the Amana but we are not full timers and its perfect for my wife and I. With the left over front panels from the Amana we filled in the sides to make it look good, the panels were a little short but we patched it at the bottom and suits us, the right hand side has a 7" door where the vacuum hose can go or what ever. I used the bidirectional swing door hinge to make a door lock while underway, I printed up the lock and down the road will weld up an aluminum one.

Finally (yeah) picked up coach after having generator rebuild and re-install. The generator is running fine, both basement a/cs are running normal on generator but the refrigerator is not coming on. The fridge lights come on when the door is open but the compressor does not engage. It was cooling fine on electric before re-installing the generator. Being a newbie to Newell, am I missing something or is the fridge on the fritz? I will be back in the coach tomorrow afternoon and will attempt to check it again when on the generator. It is not plugged in at this moment.....having a cut tire replaced. Any suggestions would be helpful.
