The generator will not stay running when strter button is released. Solenoit pulls fuel valve open, but closes as soon as starter button is released.
Also the fuel Solenoid is getting very hot when not in use and genertor is not running.
It appears that the previous owner installed a after market one because the wires do not have a plug on them, but 3 seperate crimped ends. One wire(black)is going to a bolt on the solenoid to ground, one wire (red) is going to blue and yellow wires from the wireing harness, one wire (white) is going to a white wire from the wireing harness.

If i disconect the wires, let it set and cool off, the generator will start and stay running, the solenoid appears to be working as it should.

Shut the generator down, wait a couple of hours and the solenoid gets hot to the touch and stops holding the fuel valve open.

Getting ready to head to the NoRally Rally in TN and find a huge blood stain on the floor under the engine… it’s antifreeze and I found the culprit - one of the hose bib hoses clamps is loose or so I thought - I readjusted the clamp (self tensioning type) and added another up higher on the hose. Could the hose have expanded? I did notice that ALL of the valves are closed but my engine ran perfectly and the heat stayed in range from OK to MO to AL over 1000 miles. Not sure if I should snip off some of the hose and reclamp or maybe get a better clamp… anyway I have to get some more Final Charge :-( still a small leak…

So I had issues with the heater core at the front of the coach about a month ago. I closed off the two valves that seemed to stop the flow of antifreeze to the front of the coach (the two valves closest to the front of the coach - BACK of the engine since it is mounted backwards as opposed to a truck…???).
I drained, filled with water, drained, filled with water and ran the engine until the thermostat kicked in and drained the water then put in Final Charge RED Extended Life Antifreeze.
I had an unexpected result today. We traveled about 5 hours to Mississippi and settled into an RV park. Went to take a shower and no hot water. Since I had turned off the heat loop to the front of the coach maybe this affected the engine heat to the Aquahot…???
So this started me thinking, which always gets me in trouble but NOT hot water this time, that I could just crank up the diesel or 240-volt electric AH and we could take nice hot showers as always. I went outside and everything looked fine BUT there was no juice in the AH tank that I could feel with my finger. The overflow jug was a little over the COLD mark.
I didn’t want to start the AH with no juice but what was really ODD was that the juice in the overflow was now RED not the old green stuff that I had in it… I’m confused as to whether I should top off the tank with the old green or use the new hotness RED… what do you guys think and how on earth is this system connected to the engine now? Did I turn off the wrong valves???
The engine/radiator ran perfectly (after burping) and it even sucked antifreeze out of the overflow bottle which I’ve never noticed it doing before…
BTW, the 12 to 24-volt conversion on the SCS air conditioners is working GREAT! Ran for 3 hours on the genset in 80f and performed great front and rear! It’s almost cold in here now! Thanks to Gino/Jeff, Tom and others for their help! Now I have to get the heater system working with it and I’m golden (or time to sell!) …

I changed the two fuel filters, one at a time and on the 8V92TA Detroit and filled them with diese before installing them. This is the 8th time in eight years that I have done this with no problems. Well the 9th time is an issue. Strarted the coach up. Ran for about 30 seconds perfectly, no leaks. Then it started running rough, like 1 cylinder was not contributing. I was unable to raisse the rpm's and shut the motor down. Removed the first filter, looking for perhaps a double gasket situation, but all was good. Same with the 2nd filter. Replaced them one at a time with spare filters, filling the filters with diesel. Now the coach is still a no start. Never had to purge air. I don'tknow how to proceed. Iam avoiding cranking for long periods, trying to avoid damaging the starter with heat. Any suggestions?

Hey all,
This is our first winter in our Newell coach. While we’ve been fulltime on the road since 2014, out idea of winterizing has always been to follow the weather. Due to a health condition, we will be stuck in Dallas for at least this year and you might know about the big storm heading our way this weekend. We have heaters in place for the air compressor, water catchment and (lifepo) battery bay, but do we need one in the generator bay and should the engine preheat be on through the storm to prevent the diesel from gelling up?

Thanks

Hey all,
This is our first winter in our Newell coach.

Good day gurus. I can hear air leaking from behind the rear wheels. Using my leak detector, I tracked it down to the bottom side of the manifold that holds the air dryer filter behind the left rear tag tire. The leak is coming from where the hex head is located in the attached picture. The picture is the bottom of the manifold to which the air dryer filter is located on top. My question is whether I can try tightening the hex bolt or if that is not recommended? If I do tighten it, how hard can I crank down on it?

My 2nd ever post in so many minutes.
My 89 Widebody has an annoying air leak from the wiper switches. Takes a bit of fiddling to get them to stop. I’m sure it’s the seals but I don’t know where to start looking to fix , replace or switch to electric?
Thank you for any thoughts on the subject.

Hello All:
My name is Peter Smith and this is my first post.
I have been eyeballing classic Newells for years and just now have purchased an ‘89 Widebody with 29K miles. #209 Flew out to Portland Oregon and drove her home to Massachusetts. 2380 hours on the generator and beautifully maintained and updated. The previous owner went top of the line with everything he did from installing the whole Victron management system to Recaro seats.
Anyway I have for the moment one question. In the bathroom are three light switches and a gfi outlet in a row and one of the switches has a red light that comes on above it as I hear an electronic switch of some kind activating. The sound of the switch comes from the opposite side around the bedroom closet and I can’t figure out what it does. Along with the sound and the red circular light above it seems like it should have some importance.
Any thoughts are appreciated and I am very pleased to now be a part of the Newell community.
