I'm looking to replace the gas struts on my larger compartment doors. The existing struts do not have any product name or number but smaller doors have SPD 2300-90. I also have six struts that came with the coach that are 20" 120lb, look new but I can not get them to depress with my body weight so not sure if they are any good. What weight should I use for the large bay doors, 100, 120 or 150lb?
Thanks

On my coach the larger basement doors are 150#. Smaller doors are 120#. Not surprising that you can't depress a 150# gas spring. You will need to depress the gas spring about 1" to install.

There is a thread on the forum (somewhere) that shows a clamp from Horrible Freight that works well to remove/replace the shocks - just have to drill about a 1/2 or so divit in the clamp so the shock will not come out.

Steve do you have pictures and dimensions of your strut compressor?

I just replaced the gas springs on 4 of my bay doors. All 20"X150# 10mm ball socket ends. The small over head doors in the front entertainment center were 12"X24# 10mm ball socket. I think the 24# is a bit high. I should have used 15-20 lbs springs.

Using Tom's compression tool made simple work of the bay doors.

Just used this tool the other day on two basement doors.  I've made several & used to give them away at Guru rallies.

http://newellgurus.com/showthread.php?tid=48     Pictures & specs are here.

Tip:  Unscrew the old gas spring from the rear ball socket end.  Then screw the new gas spring into the old ball socket.  Now you just have the front ball socket to hook up.

Thanks for all the advice. It looks like the struts are about 1/2" to long so I think I will try the Harbor Freight bar clamp tomorrow.

Ended up taking Tom's advice and used a 2" ratchet strap to compress them and it worked great, a little awkward but fine. Took about ten minutes to change three of them. Thanks for all the advice
