Used to live just down the road in Cornelia, GA. Rabun Gap is the home of the Foxfire book series. Look for one of them while you are there. High school kids documenting the old way of life in the Appalachians.

Hmmm, intermittent electrical problems make all of us crazy. Check all your power connections.

I have not seen a failed board come back to life so your problem is probably something else. My units will do that if they get frozen up. I can tell if I hear fan running but no air coming out of the vents.

Did you look behind the filters to see if you are frozen up? Be sure your filters are clean.
