8V92 Air Dryer - RussWhite - 05-14-2018

Fellow Gurus:

Please help me help a friend with an answer to his question.

Question today is a older newell with a 8V92 has a model 68 air dryer that is no longer available...what is the preferred choice replacement?

Thanks - Russ

I believe Jon (77Newell) replaced his with a newer model. Hopefully he'll jump in soon.

Jon changed their Brakemaster CR 68 to a Bendix AD-9. in Forest and Cindy's coach...search for an earlier post from Jon. Also

Found new, not remanufactured, here:
https://www.anythingtruck.com/category/htp-brake-air-dryers-ad9.html?Per_Page=12&Sort_By=disp_order&f_brand=Bendix

and spec sheet for size here:
http://beamalarm.com/foretravel-links/PDF/air_dryer_ad-9_installation.pdf

And http://www.bendix.com/en/servicessupport/partnumbersearch/partnumbersearch_1.jsp

Good luck, Lynn from Lynn/Jeff

RE: 8V92 Air Dryer - encantotom - 05-14-2018

there are rebuild kits available at fleetpride. at least there were a few years ago. much cheaper and easier.

think it was like 30 bucks and was easy to do. i did it on my 90

but it was quite a while ago

you might check into it. they do work ok

RE: 8V92 Air Dryer - 77newell - 05-14-2018

The 77 coach had no dryer when I bought the coach. Following a scary episode on slippery roads with suspected ice in the air brake system I went with the AD-9 for reasons too distant to remember.

When I acquired Forest's 93 coach I found water in the service tank downstream of the Brakemaster dryer, ergo the switch to the proven, by my personal experience, AD-9. I have since found no moisture in the tanks. Yes, the AD-9 does require an element change every few years, but at about $65 it's cheap compared to what can happen with iced brakes.
