SCS A/C 1301 fan motor swap
#41

I would guess that comp J3 would be the connection for the compressor that connection would of had a voltage drop that would of caused problems, if you checked voltage to the fan motor with the motor connected and got 120 volts there was no voltage drop , if you unplugged the motor and got 120 volts  at the connector there is a good chance there was not 120 volts with the motor connected

You have one of the original boards. They had design flaws, namely running a bunch of current through circuits and connectors not designed to handle the amperage. The boards burned up at different points just like your picture.

You have options at this point. One, Newell had the board redesigned. They sell them. It won’t be a direct for a one compressor unit, but lot’s of folks on here can walk you through how to wire it. Pricey, but a quick solution. I have seen the board and it is nicely done.

Two, have the existing board repaired. And add external relays(https://newellgurus.com/showthread.php?tid=3252&page=5) or you will be right back where you started.

Three, follow Ginos Garage post on completely replacing the controls with common house style controls.

Thanks for chiming in.
1.  With the redesigned board.  Newell told me they only have boards for the big 2 compressors "2702 units".  I was thinking, could I use that and only use half of it??  Also Newell fixed my burned up big one.  So does that mean I don't need the relay conversion on that one anymore??

2.  Depending on what you say about the first question may answer this question about the relays.  I have a spare board that looks a little bit different but pretty similar to what was in it.

3.  I'm saving Jeff's solution as a last ditch effort in order to save my weary brain cells and it being too far about my electrical pay grade.

Sorry, driving all day.

The two compressor board can be easily adapted to a one compressor setup.

I have no idea what was involved in Newell fixed up my burned up big one. Cutting to the chase scene. If you have a NEW Newell provided control board you DO NOT need the external relay modification.

I would have to see a pic of your spare board to know if it is the Newell designed one, or one of the originals.

Thank you Richard

I do have a new board from Newell in my big 2 compressor unit.

I may for simplicity get the board from Newell and use it for my single compressor unit.

I’ll include a picture of my spare board (also needs repaired) and also the one from Newell if someone can help me with the wiring on the new one from Newell that would be great.  Looks like the thermostat plug is different

I am easily confused by English. As a southern redneck it is a second language for me.

The first pic looks like a modified SCS board. I say that because it has SCS printed on it, and it has the plug for the tstat. The new boards that I saw from Newell had a modified plug that the tstat wires attached into. Maybe my memory is corrupt.

So?
Is the board in the first pic? One that was repaired by Newell? Or a new board from Newell?

I am so sorry to drag this out but the answer really drives the best solution.

If the board pictured on the left is NOT a NEW board from Newell, then get a board from Newell. It will have instructions for wiring it. You will simply not wire in the lower section for the second compressor.

We are ordering two of the boards today and I have order several of the relays just in case - Jeff Lojudiuce has been very helpful with building the boards but I think going the Newell board route will be better for me.

Ok. So thanks for clearing that up. You need the plug for the tstat. Call Newell. They should have written wiring instructions also
