The buttress is the top rail on the side of the coach running from front to back. Some of the others can chime in on the mileage of the various engines but in general, depreciation is high enough to overshadow the cost difference in fuel economy between one engine and another. If you want better fuel mileage run about 60-64 mph with the newer coaches and assume that 5-7 mpg is in the right range. Typically the newer, heavier coaches will be closer to the lower number and lighter Series 60 coaches will be at the top of the range.
All of the ZF suspension coaches have the steerable tag. If the coach does not have the steerable tag, but newer than mid-1997, it will have the Dana independent front suspension (there was one 1996, #434, with the IFS) but not by ZF. Many of the 1997's and prior had a Ridewell solid front axle build date prior to 11/1/1995.
Slides: #645, a 2003 was the first Newell with Valid slides, then #650 and after all had Valid electric slides. All Newells prior to 650 with the exception of 645, had HWH hydraulic slides or no slides.
