After Steve and I discussed this coach, I contacted Newell to get a little history.

Coach 671 was the prototype for the 2004 model year and was built as a 2004 model before Newell had completed all of the 2003's. It was Karl Blade's personal coach for several months. This was the first Newell built with the ZF suspension.

My continued appreciation to Karl Blade, John Clark and all the fine staff at Newell for the assistance that they offer the Newell owner family. We are very fortunate to own a coach built and supported by such a dedicated organization as Newell.

Hi all,
I've been looking for a Newell and came across coach #671 in Fort Myers, FL at a small consignment dealer.
I've been trying to track down information on it as I'm considering makign an offer.
One of the problems is that the dealer has provided a VIN which appears to be invalid. I want to check to see if there are any open recalls on it.
The manuals are not on the coach and the dealer knows little about Newells. (I had to start it for him so we cojld take it for a test drive.)
I did see that the coach was offered previously by Panterra in Angola, IN for $329,000.
The dealer in Florida is asking $399,995.
Would appreciate any info on this coach that anyone might have.

Is the VIN you have 1N9458X8241011671? You can contact Newell on Monday and they will tell you if there are any open recalls. That was the first coach Newell built with the steerable tag. It was completed during the 2003 model year but registered as a 2004 to allow Newell's President to thoroughly test the steerable tag in-house for several months.

You are correct, it was previously listed at $329k. I understand that the batteries and tag and drive tires were replaced in 2011 and the steer tires were replaced in 2012.

Tom,

I have a 2004 coach #689 quad slides that I would sell for $350K. I need to sell one of my coaches either #422 1994 or #689 2004. Both coaches are listed with some pictures and info on RVT.com http://www.rvt.com/rvsearchresults.php?&rvmanu=Newell Ad # 5442220 and Ad # 5199509 call (865 712 5610) or email ([email protected]) for more pictures or info.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your note...and I must say this site made it easier to get some information on this coach.
Maybe you can help with a question that is really important to me.
I've given up on Prevost conversions as most appear to go out the door very close or beyond their weight limit. They are just too damned heavy!
This brought me to Newell. Brian Pitts recently sent me a spec sheet on Newell weights which indicated the GVWR is now 63,600 pounds. He also said that most Newells now go out the door weighing "in the upper 55,000 range" with full fuel, DEF and water.
This made me very happy.
However, back in 2004, what was the GVWR?
I fully intend to have the coach weighed when it gets back to Panterra, if i get close to a deal. That could be a deal breaker.
Yes, this coach was at a consignment dealer in Florida but actually owned by Randy Vanklompenberg at Panterra and will be returned shortly to them.
Any info you have about chassis specs in 2004 would be helpful. I suspect this coach is very heavy as it has the Valid flat floor and four slides.
Cheers!
Tom
PS: It drives beautifully!

The GVWR in 2002 was 55,000 pounds (18k front, 25k drive and 12k tag). During the 2006 model year the Porsche design P2000i was introduced and the GVWR went to 59,580 pounds (18,180 front, 26400 drive, 15,000 tag). The wet weights vary significantly from one coach to another based on the layout and customizations that the owner requested. However, it is not uncommon for Newells without any personal belongings but full water and fuel tanks to have over 5,000 pounds of carrying capacity. FMCA tested a 2006 model that weighed 53,970 with full water and 80% fuel with a GVWR of 59,580 and a CGVWR of 79,580. Newells, as Prevosts can be close on the front axle weight so loading heavy items toward the rear is always a good idea.

Maybe Marc or Ron will be good enough to give us some information on their 2004 weights (GVWR and GAWR) and possibly actual weights if either has had a chance to weigh their coach. I have had Newell weigh mine a couple of times as they have the equipment to weigh each wheel position.

My coach fully loaded weighs 50,500 (17,500 front, 23,400 rear axle, 9,600 tag) with a maximum of 55,000. Thus the margin is 4,500 and almost all of the margin is in the rear. Fortunately the Michelin 365s in the front at 19,000 provide a decent safety factor.
