Newell House

Sure starting to take shape. I'm making a bet that you'll spend 50% of your time out there. (at least)

Tom, I am loving your garage pics. That is gonna be one fantastic place. One question though...why wood stick construction vs. a metal building? Is there a cost difference? Inquiring minds wanna know!

Cheers

i was going to go metal, but after darlene and i talked, we decided to go with a building that will match our house in stucco and tile roof. it was more money, but not as much as you would think.

with conventional 2x8 framing, the insulated value will be very high.

a few more pictures from this afternoon. they were working on the facia for the roofline today as well. i will do pictures once they are done with that.

will start on electrical and plumbing next week.

i just sat out there this afternoon with a buddy for a while. it was only in the 80's today and overcast so a fantastic day.

the framed in room is the mancave that will be air conditioned. it is 16x32 with a 10 foot interior ceiling. to scale the picture, the top of the mancave is 11 feet tall. it is built strong enough for storage on top.

too bad they have to put a roof on it....the view is great.

What prevented you from stuccoing the outside and tiling the roof of the metal one? I bricked and shingled the last one I did with very good results. Other that being taller than the house, I routinly had papers delivered there. Everybody thought it was a house. Insulation was close, as I foamboarded under the brick and put R18 (or so) in the walls and R30 in the ceiling. It also had a second floor which was very handy for storage, other than climbing the stairs! It made for a very stout building. Good for the winds we have here!

Nothing really. Would not have saved me much of anything over what I am doing. I am glad I am doing what I am. All personal choice. Lots of nice metal buildings too.
