Missing VIN numbers
#1

I have VIN numbers which I believe to be correct for most of the 1990 and newer Newells. There are a few that are eluding me. If you know of any of these coaches and can find the actual VIN I would certainly appreciate the information. You are welcome to send me a PM with the information. If you have the information for a pre-1990 Newell, I would appreciate that information as well. Although I have a few, I don't have very many.

For 1990 and newer they will always start with 1N9 and end with the last three digits of the coach number.

I am missing the 20 digit VIN's for the following Coach #'s
214
253
268
273
274
318
381
496
500
607
634
673
706
756
1246
1472
1509
1510
1513
1514
1515
anything newer than 1516

UPDATE: I now have ALL VIN from 214 - 1518
If you have a VIN prior to 1990 OR since 1518, please let me know

Again, if you can provide the VIN for most pre-1990 Newell's, that would be very helpful.

I found a few additional VIN's when I discovered that Newell used an "X" in the 6th digit for coaches that had a length ending in 10". It makes sense but I had 'assumed' that only 0-9 were used. If there is a code used for 11", I haven't found it or guessed it yet.

I want to give a huge shout-out to all of you who have assisted in the compilation of this information.

Michael,
I see you are looking for 318. Do you know who had 317 built or where it is?

I don't know who 317 was built for but it was registered in West Monroe, LA as of last year.

Some interesting trivia and speculation....My Newell (316) was a bunk bus for the Steve Miller Band. On the original print it showed 4 sets of bunks three high. The coach actually was built with 4 bunks just two high. When I disassembled the interior I could see where the side walls were marked and upholstered for three bunk stacks. I'm wondering if the plan originally was for one Star coach for Steve and one bunk coach for band members until they saw how small the bunks were when stacked three high. I was contacted years ago by a gentleman in Alaska who sent me a picture of his Newell that was painted just like mine but had a typical motorhome floor-plan. He said it had been Steve Millers coach. Later when I had my coach listed for sale a gentleman called me from Nashville stating that he had seen a Newell just like mine in town but did not know any more about it. I'm wondering if that was 317 and it is a bunk coach built to accommodate the band members who did not fit into 316 and the Star coach in Alaska is 318.

Back in 1992, #317 was registered in Deleware with 15,000 miles on it. I think Gary "Busnut" owed 318 back in 2008 but as you know, I don't have a VIN on that coach.

Interesting history!
