Broken Tire lugs

Brad,

I don't quite understand, and I figure it's better to figure it out now as my turn may come later.

I may not have the picture correct in my head, so I attached what my drive hub looks like. Ten studs that come out through the brake drum. The wheels go on flat side to flat side and then the lug nuts hold it all together.

So did a bunch of nuts just crack and just sit there and spin as the wrench turned? Where any of the studs damaged or replaced? What got welded to what? Did you weld a new nut to the remains of a damaged lug nut and then turn the new nut pulling the damaged on off with it? Sorry for my confusion.
