2015 get together
#61

Ron

I guess it was not clear exactly what Friday they all ment. Perhaps it's the fast pace on the east coast we thought it was today. Lol

Okay, a decision has been made on the location for our 2015 rally.....Tahoe Valley Campground in South Lake Tahoe.  As many of you know Elaine and I worked at Tahoe Valley Campground last summer, and are returning there this year.  This is a rustic campground....all interior roads are paved, however, the sites are dirt.  Most are quite level.  We will be blocking out close to 30 sites in Section G (see attached map).

Sites 101-111 are all 30 amps, and are very long sites and most will take over 60' rigs.  These sites get more sun in the morning, but have more shade in the afternoon.

Sites 127-135 are all 30 amps, and I do not recommend them for Newells over 40'.  They will work fine for Classics.

Sites 151-162 are only 30 amps, but have a lot of shade.  In June you will have no need for A/C.  These sites will handle 46' Newells easily, but no room for trailers.  If a pull through site is more important than having 50 amp service you will be happy in these sites.

Sites 164-172 are all 50 amps, and are all back in.  They put some pretty long RV's in those sites last summer with no problem.

Sites 173-182 are all 50 amps, and all back in just like 164-172.

Here is the pertinent information:

1) Dates will be June 8th to June 13th.  You can come early, or stay later, or both, obviously.
2) The sites are blocked out in the name of Newell Gurus.  You must call and make your individual reservations prior to April 15th....after that no guarantees.  Phone number is 530-541-2222.  After the recorded message plays hit #1, which will direct you right to the office.  You want talk with Duane Jakob.....he is the manager, and the one I worked out the details with.
3) Our group will get a 20% discount off the normal rates.  This time of year the rate for a full hookup site is $50-52/day.  With the 20% discount that comes down to $40-42/day.
4) Tahoe Valley Campground is just over 1 mile from the nearest Beach (Pope Beach-closest, Camp Richardson, Baldwin Beach-furthest).
5) We are about 15 minutes from stateline and the Nevada casinos (Harvey's, Harrahs, etc.), as well as boutique shopping.  Gondola rides to the top of Heavenly Valley run during the summer months.
6) We are walking distance from several good local restaurants, and by a short car ride to many more.
7) There is a large, full service Raley's Supermarket less than one mile from the campground.
8) Amenities: Laundry, pool, pickleball courts, horseshoes, Friday & Saturday night movies, Propane, camp store, ice.
9) There is storage on site for those who may want to drop their trailers....$3/day
10) There are numerous places to rent ski boats, SUP's (stand up paddle boards), kayaks, bicycles, etc.  There are some great local bike paths.
11) The iconic Emerald Bay is under 9 miles from the campground....I know because I rode my bicycle up there about 30 times last summer.
12) For those who may want to put a tent on their site in addition to your RV you can put up one large tent on most sites for no extra charge.
13) Pets are extra
14) There are 4 park model cabins for rent
15) The temps in June tend to be cool.......mid 60's to  high 70's daytime, and down into the low 40's at night.  The odds you will need to use your A/C is almost nil.  The odds you will want to use a heater first thing in the morning are pretty high this time of year.
16) Very few sites have a view of the southern sky so satellite reception is hit and miss, however, all these sites have cable TV.
17) The interior roads in Section G are nice and wide, and easy to navigate, however, the road in front of sites 151-163 is quite narrow.
18) There are approximately thirty 50 amp sites available in this section.....only 11 of these are pull through.  There are 13 pull through sites in 151-163, but once again these are all 30 amps.  If you think you can do without 50 amps for 4 nights these will work nice, and are actually some of our most popular sites.  They had several large class A clubs in these sites last summer.
19) Not all sites have fire pits, but you can rent a portable fireplace from the office which will be delivered to your site.
20)The campground erects a large circus like tent each summer for various activities (movies, bands, etc) and it will be available to us for potluck dinners, seminars, etc.
21) For those Razor enthusiasts there are numerous off road opportunities in the surrounding area.

If you have a question that has not been answered above please post it here and I will get back to you as soon as I am able.

Tom and I realize that due to the location of this rally being on the west coast that a number of you may not be able to attend due to schedules, or will not wish to make the drive.  For those of you who do come we will have a blast as always.  Lake Tahoe is an amazing place to explore and spend time.  If you wish to stay longer than a week there are weekly and monthly rates available.  We will be contacting those who are coming to see if you are interested in helping organize the event.

Sincerely,

Tom and Clarke

Unfortunately Cindy and I won't be able to make the rally this year. We have family commitments in late May and early June. But we will be there in spirit if not in body.
I'm sure it will be a great rally like all of the others and I strongly encourage everyone especially the new owners to attend. There is so much knowledge and friendship there you can't begin to describe it until you've experienced it.
Hopefully we can meet up with gurus this summer while we're in Colorado.

Richard did you call reservation line or office line? Also does anyone have much experience driving west?

Have the option of 2 routes, up to denver then north to i80 then south at donners pass.. Quite a few big climbs?
Option 2 I-40 to flagstaff and kingman then north to Vegas and us 95 to Tahoe.. I'm guessing the lasvegas route has much fewer mountains.. Only a couple of climbs. Albuquerque, flagstaff, and up from the Hoover dam. Not sure the vegas to Tahoe leg.. Opinions?

We will make a reservation and hope to attend, but my sister is terminally ill in Ct. and she is guiding my whereabouts and schedule for the time being.....

Marc,,,,,, We have logged 100k miles in the Western States alone and still have found new roads and places with each trip. I would go a different route coming and going.

We will be there if the IRS doesn't get us and if the Lord's willing and the creek doesn't rise!  We have anxiously awaited the information as to when and where.  We've not been to Tahoe, so we're excited. As we're just south of Kansas City (barely over the Kansas/Missouri line) we'll be taking I-70 to Denver.  We have a daughter, 3 granddaughters and 4 greatgrands in Golden, CO, so we'll at least over-night at a Campground in Golden and then go to Cheyenne, Salt Lake City and on to Tahoe.  Coming home we will go to Las Vegas to visit friends who sold their 1992 Newell a few years ago and had a couple of Prevosts before they totally defected and bought a 5-wheel to live in, in Vegas!  Go figure.

Looking forward to seeing everyone that we met at Table Rock.  We've been to Brownsville a couple of times since we got the 2002 Newell, but this will definitely be our FIRST long over-the-road trip.

We called the office. They knew all about us, and the discount was no problem.
