Dana and Rockwell parts are readily available since they were used in many OTR trucks.
The value of the coach will decrease (depreciate) at an annual rate of say 8% of the current value of the coach. That is frequently the most expensive aspect of coach ownership until the coach gets to be about 20 years old. That can be as much or more than you will spend on fuel total, much less the difference between 5 mpg and 7 or 8 mpg so I personally do not consider the fuel mileage high on my criteria list. Many people spend more on annual maintenance than they do on fuel. Of course if you plan on putting 20,000-50,000 miles a year on a coach, fuel mileage does become a significant cost factor.
EGR did NOT begin until 2004 with Coach #688. Larry's 2001 does not have EGR.
There were VERY few C-12 Cats installed in Newells (typically 505 HP). While there may be a few others, I am only aware of #509 (a 1999), #653 (a 2003), #690 (a 2004) and #714 (also a 2004). There were a slightly larger number of C-13 Cats installed in Newells (typically 525 HP). Ones I am aware of are #769 (2006), #752 (2005), #748 (2005), #742 (2005) and #723 (2005). To the best of my knowledge ALL of the C-12 and C-13 Cats had Allison 6 speed transmissions. The torque was not an issue until they got to the 625 HP C-15. The Allison's could not handle 2000 + lb-ft of torque.
