I had one, but cannot get coach to locksmith, and he wants $125 to come to my place and make key.
So, now I have a heavy square thing, under the bed.

I go nuts having a piece of equipment, no matter how minor, that doesn't work the way it's intended. (My bete noir right now is the in dash air conditioning.) A lot depends upon what kind of lock you have and the amount of room you have to work in. The fire safes available at the big box stores mostly keep the kids out and the locking mechanism is not very sophisticated. In a coach, you are depending more on concealment than the strength of the safe. A key lock can be fiddled open with time and patience and elementary tools. I bought a cheap pick and was able to open a filing cabinet that I'd inadvertently locked the keys inside of in about 10 minutes. Most locksmithing tools are available on line, and there are hundreds of YouTube videos on opening locks.  The variety of locks and the ease with which most can be opened is disconcerting. Check it out, you might find yours there. The electronic ones can be opened with a strong magnet (again, YouTube). Once open, the lock cylinder or even the door can be removed and taken to the locksmith. You probably save $80-100 for the house call. Everything is a trade off between time, effort and money. You pay the locksmith for training and experience, not to mention specialized equipment.
