Looking for 1972 Bumper options
#1

Hi all,

The chrome on our bumpers is shot. I just dropped $400 on having my grill rechromed and he wants $1100 each to do the bumpers. Although we could spend the money I'd like to know if anyone else has a better idea. I stopped by the fabricators that built me our aluminum fuel tank and they can build us some boxy bumpers at $700 each but I'd like to keep the curves if possible.

Thanks!

Hi Bob, Have you considered powder coating? It can look quite like chrome at a fraction of the cost.

I've never even heard of powder coating something to look like chrome. Guess I'll be looking into that

Thanks.

Check out Eastwood.com. The part has to be placed in an oven to cure the powder. I have a home kit but I dont have an oven large enough for a bumper. There are commercial coaters in my area that probably have a large enough oven (some can coat a whole 20' trailer). Check in your area or if you need I can check with those in my area.

I did a search and the chrome powder coating looks pretty good. There are also quite a few shops in my area that do powder coating, hopefully someone has an oven that can fit my 98" bumper.

I can't talk to anyone until Tuesday though so I'm on hold until then.
