Mystery heater hoses
#1

Our coach has a water hose in the mid bay area.I think it serves as a hot water loop. It seems to be a splitter, where 3/4 heater hoses join up from the cab heater, engine heat for pre heating the water heater water when under way, and also serve hot water up to the bedroom under bed hot water room heater. It began leaking last winter, and I had it replaced by Interstate Power in Sioux Falls. Today I noticed a 3/4 heater hose loop from this manifold , looping on top of the water heater, and returning to the mainfold. The hose is beginning to weep.

I don't understand what the purpose of this loop. but I do need to replace the hose, with a much shorter loop. What can I be missing here. Anyone know what the purpose of this hose was?

Also I notice that the hoses replaced by the Interstate Power are silicone. Should I do this bypass in silicone?

on my 90 i tried to trace out the heater hoses.

there was also a booster pump at the engine and one under the front cap to help push the hot water to and fro.

there was a loop for the heater under the bed, one for a heater in the water bay, and one for the hot water heater you show, and one for the front dash heater.

I've had one of my heater hoses leak, but it was at a junction point where two hoses were joined together with a short piece of copper pipe, and hose clamps on either side of the joint. This hose passed through our pass through storage bin, and it was just a matter of retightening the hose clamps.....that was 11 years ago, and hasn't leaked since. If the new leak is the one you are showing over the water heater, is it possible the hose clamps I see right above the moisture I see on top of the water heater need tightening?

Yep. You nailed it Clarke. After having a large  leak in the next compartment forward last winter , I am paronoid about such things. At some point (soon) the hose has to be replaced. It has several pinholes that oooze coolant The prior leak in the foreward compartment was caused by a broken  manifold that joins the in cab heater, water heater preheat lines and this mystery loop, which is an abandonded loop. I think as Tom surmised,  it is from a former water bay "en route" heater. Who knew that these old coaches had a means to keep the water bay and storage areas toasty while driving in freezing weather ?

I have no interest in resurrecting the old storage bay engine produced heat system, but do any Classic  owners have a system remaining? Just curious, Would love to see how Newell engineered  it .

I just rebuilt my water bay heater . I bought a new little radiator the same size that was in the metal cage and re-used the out side tanks. There is a Radiator shop in Williams ca that rebuilds any older radiator. They did a great job putting it back to original.
