New Tire Date codes

I’m currently planning to get new tires( Toyo M177 drive and tags) on the coach. I have an appointment set up for tomorrow afternoon. I asked what for date codes. The codes are 0923 thru 1323. My concern is these tires are already over a year old before they go on the coach. What are other thoughts on this?

I would not be wary of those date codes. The tires have likely been stored in a warehouse away from UV light. Some others may chime in…but the point of the age of the tires in my mind is how much UV light has impacted them. Most of us never put enough miles on the tires to wear out the tread so the problem comes with the sidewalls.

I would document the purchase in your log book and add 52 weeks to the “life” of the tire.

Your mileage may vary.

I too would not have an issue with them as long as they have been stored inside in a warehouse. But I would ask for a discount. My tire guy sold me year old tires and they were discounted over 50% of retail. Personally if I am paying retail price I want tires that are not more than 6mo old.

What kind of discount would be acceptable for 13 month old tires?

Never hurts to ask for a discount, but our tire  sizes are used on heavy duty truck and busses  as steer tires. These truckers will go through a set in 100, 000 miles , or 12 months, then be capped and run as drive tires. I don't want to start 1 year old tires on my coach, but the majority of the market is not as concerned

The other coach we bought had 2019 tires all the way around on it that were put on new in 2021, I don't have a problem with that as they were in a warehouse deflated don't think that would change the lifespan.

When I bought my first Newell, 1993 38', I had the dealer put on new Michelins then flew to Tampa to pick it up. Drove home then checked the DOT dates. They were brand new 10 year old tires! After a month of negotiating with the dealer they agreed for me to have them changed locally at their expense.
While this was ongoing I spoke with a Michelin rep who was the Motorhome guru. He told me that Michelin's policy was if they were in a warehouse and had not gone through any extreme temperature changes that Michelin considers them as good as new. Then he told me that if it were his coach he would demand new tires!
That said 1 year is not bad if they were in a warehouse. But I'd try to get a discount, probably figure out what 1 year prorated over the 5 years Newell says. And INSIST they change the tire valve stems, lots of places forget to do that and you will have a leak from the gaskets. Had that happen twice and had leaks both times.
