Aquahot digital temperature gauge
#1

Stopped working a couple weeks ago. Pulled the panel over microwave, disconnected red wire to reset it. Still reads 0. I believe the red/black/green wires going to the top of aqua hot are these. Anyway to take off the cover to access these?

Forest,

I do not know the exact location of the tank temp sensor. But, there is a cover with two sheet metal screws located above the burner behind which are the thermostats.

I called Newell and was told the tank temp sensor is located behind the cover Rudy described. Haven't had time to check.

I pulled the cover and saw the thermostats but the 3 wires go into the tank.

If yours is a 431, you should be able to remove the cover off the main burner box by drilling the rivets out. The fiber insulation will be attached to the cover, so once removed the burner/coil assembly will be exposed. There's a hard thermal conductant that helps heat transfer between the coil and burner. If your sensor is there, it may be on the opposite end from the thermostats, as that end does not have anything impeding contact. But that would be a long way to go for a temp sensor. If it's measuring the fresh water temp, it might be located right on the coil, which is partially exposed (once the main cover is off).

Guess I'll just live with it. Way too much trouble to take off the cover.
Here's something else, a while back I noticed the fan for the kitchen heater was not blowing but the living area one was. Since they both are on the same loop I figured the fans were bad. Well today I figured since it was rainy I'd look at it. I pulled out the cabinet door for the garbage can and was able to see what had happened. The string for the window shade was tied off to a screw and there was about 3 feet laying on the floor. The loose end was tangled up in the fan blades. I pulled it out and now the fan works!
Glad I'm still capable of doing stuff like this because it would have killed me to pay someone to fix this....

Forest,
I looked under the thermostat cover and found the temperature gauge sensor in the top right corner. It has three wires-red, black & green. Doesn't look difficult to change.

Under that cover my 3 wires go through a hole into the tank. Guess I'm not as lucky as you Steve.

I still want to get the gauge working. I guess if I could find another gauge with a contact type sensor that might work.
Anybody have any ideas on a gauge that might work?
