Thanks Doug, that is a very good idea and not something I'd have thought of!
Doug's correct... I've aggravated more than one salesman when, I tell them to run along and hangout in the coach for a few hours ... Practicing.....
That's why we like the Murphy bed in back easy accses to master toilet with slides in
I just bought tires from Newell and the going rate today is $895 for a 315. Batteries 8 x 8d's $225 ea.
You can spend up to $5000. for an annual PM depending on what the coach needs at the time. Chappell hit the nail on the head. Buy a bus that has not been abused or worn. When we bought ours , we spent almost $40k, but made her almost new inside and out. I also did about half of all the work myself and know my limitations, which also can be important unless Richard is coming over for a visit and then anything is solvable.
Hey Larry,

I don't drink or take drugs but surly I'm on some kind of wacky-tabbaky because its almost like I heard you say you paid $895.00 for a tire and $225 for a batterie. Hey Larry, that was for a white-wall right!!!

Now I know there are some and I'm not one of them by the way, who believe Larry never compleatly recovered from his years in the comune back in the 60's. But I think most would call him almost normal right? Tongue

Or as Larry would say back in the day "That's a lot of buck-a-roonies man"! Smile

Harry
Harry, those prices are not unusual. Don't know if those prices were with FET and mounting but I just paid about $650 per tire, out the door, for Bridgestone 11R24.5's, which are less expensive tires, and 8-D's are typically $200-250 each + tax and if you go AGM 8-D's, they are typically $450-$500 each + tax.
I was actually thinking "Not Bad".... Just paid $500 ea for my Truck tires... (:~)
I noticed no on disputed "Larry never compleatly recovered from his years in the comune back in the 60's." Smile Even then he was dreaming about ol 646, he just didn't know it was a Newell coach!Sleepy
all i can say is i NEVER want to have to negotiate with larry. and i am pretty good at negotiating.

Lets call this part of the thread...

Motor-Homing on the Cheap

Where else would you expect to find a topic like “Motor-Homing on the Cheap” other than the Newell Guru where we discuss the most expensive coach's on the planet!

It should be pointed out that these expenses are not unique to Newell, they exist for any top of the line diesel pusher.

General cost of doing business...

• $8,000.00 ($800.00X8 tires - $250.00X8 batteries) replaced every 5 years (save $1,600.00 per year, $133.00 per month)
• $1,000.00 (oil, filters & diesel related items) $83.00 per month
• $1,000.00 (generator parts, filters etc) $83.00 per month
• $1,000.00 (hot water heater parts, filters etc) $83.00 per month
• $2,000.00 (general interior / exterior issues) $167.00 per month
• $5,730.00 (10,000 miles @ 6.75 MPG = 1,481 gallons @ $3.87 per gal) $477.62 per month
• $1,000.00 (misc. items and expenses) $83.00 per month.

$1,109.00 per month could keep you on the road (not including any financing on the actual coach or dollars allocated to your Toad)

Oh, it may be a good idea to buy a coach to go along with the expenses. So you buy a $300,000.00 coach, put down $100,000.00 and have a $200,000.00 loan over 2o years at what, around 6% interest (if you can even get a loan for a coach over 10 years old).

What do you think,

Harry
