Forum: Discussion about what to consider on buying a used Newell
- Replies (4)
Greetings. I am not a Newell owner but hope to become one. I am considering buying a 1988 Newell Classic that has been stored inside its entire life when not in use and is still owned by original owner with 120K miles. Very well kept coach for a 1988. Has the Silver Detroit 8V92 rated at 475 HP at 2100 rpm.
I am a very handy person, build many motors, suspensions, and enjoy fabicating as an engineer. We are replacing a 5th wheel toy hauler after a hail claim. And getting away from our toys (dirt bikes mainly). We have owned many RVs from toy haulers to various class Cs up to a 2002 Country Coach.
Is there anything special about the mid to late 1980s Classic models? Basically, why would you want to own one versus buying a 2002-2008 Monaco/Beaver/HR/Safari w 3 slides?
Any special or rare options that I should try to identify?
We own a custom furniture business and I have always loved the idea of doing a custom interior within a coach build on very, very, very good bones. However, I am not retired and do not have tons of freetime so I would need to overall the interior over time.
I have another significant leak in my air system and am unable to locate it. I have an appointment in 3 weeks to resolve the issue but I’m trying to put in place a temporary fix with an auxiliary compressor. Right now I have all air turned off as the Thomas compressors were coming on in less than 5 minutes and frequently shutting down due to excessive run time. I purchased an appropriate compressor and think I have it hooked up properly but I’m getting no air to the coach. Would really like to be able to operate the door! I can live with slightly out of level for the time being. I have attached pictures and would appreciate any ideas!
The compressor shows 120 psi and the gauge in the picture shows the same. Is there another cutoff I’m missing?
Thanks!
I have replacement air bags that have composite piston/base in lieu of the originals which have aluminum pistons .
Question: are any of you using air bags with composite piston ?
I'm afraid the $950 per bag option is not feasible for me.
Thank you,
Chris

· Sadly, due to medical issues, we can no longer travel in our wonderful coach, and we have to list it for sale. This coach is known as one of Newell's most beautiful and elegant coaches by those who know it. We are the original owners and we designed it inside and out. This is a non-smoking, non-pet coach that is in pristine condition. It has a one-of-a-kind graphics scheme with window treatments to complete the illusion. We designed special features into this coach that are not seen in Newell’s until 2019 and I will list them below.

Need a little help. I rebuilt the locking pins on the living room slide last year and it was pretty easy to get the front valance off.
now time to do the bedroom locking pins. Cant figure out how to get that front valance off, there are no bolts or screws like the front one had. Also the center roof piece slides with the slide in the roof. ( where the fan is ) Anybody/somebody has to have done this before. Any help on how to get that front valance off the bedroom slide would be greatly appreciated.
I had a condenser fan blade come apart on one of my Dometic condenser units. The old style 6 blade 10 1/2" ccw rotation style. I tried for days to find a suitable replacement in Phoenix. A counter person at ARS was able to look up a Dometic fan for a Brisk Air from Home Depot. When I got it from store ( took 4days shipping time) I was devastated, 6 blades 1/2" hub but cw rotation. Reversed the motor from ccw to cw and all seems to be working well. Stay tuned for condenser fan motor replacement details hopefully next week as one of the other units condenser fan motor has locked up now. Note: It seems there were at least 2 generations of condenser units. The newer version uses a squirrel cage fan which does not look to be easily adapted to fit the 6 blade early generation.
Flip the switch in the galley to on (diesel) red light comes on. Sometimes the glower can be heard to come on sometimes not. Sometimes when the blower comes on it will fire and act normally.
Sometimes if I repeatedly flip that switch on and off it will eventually turn on the blower and mayby fire and make heat. Most times now it will not.
Full service in the spring.
Electric side is making heat.
Rudy any thoughts?
Need to replace the oil pressure sender/transmitter and the dash gage but for the life of me I can't find the sender on the engine. 8V92 Silver engine. Any ideas where it is?
One of my friends owns a Tuning shop for MB's and such. He started making air dams for all cars that need to scoop more air in after they reprogram their ECUs. I asked if he could make a couple of radius curved thing-a-ma-bobs for my coach. I've been wanting to make something prettier for the front where the solar panels are exposed at the leading edge. In two days they drafted a design and had it in my hands. Today I picked them up along with a piece of 5052 aluminum stock as the main windbreaker.
