Are there (or SHOULD) air filters on the A/C system for the basement airs? I would think there would be a really dirty return air somewhere in the coach...

Yes, they should be under the steps. The filters are just sitting at the back of the steps, 1 under each step, and just slip in and out.
And there may be a hidden panel under the bottom step. Feel around for a finger hole and see if there is one. That is if it's carpet, if tile or wood may not come off.

Forrest, I have never figured out what the hidden panel is for or why it is there.

the 90 had the same hidden panel, i discovered it by accident when i was recarpeting the coach. but my 02 doesnt. anywhere...

No hidden panel on my 2001. Filter in bottom two steps. This winter I am going to fabricate a better frame to house the filters since the factory install is rather skimpy.
