I need to replace our in dash radio and upgrade to a radio/CD player. I do want to keep the passenger controls for the unit.
Has anyone replaced this unit with an upgrade?

I think the remote is a Sony unique. Look on the Crutchfield site to see if Sony makes any units today that will accept the remote.

Most newer series Sony, such as the MEX - M100MT have a remote plug in on the back of the units, I’m told that the only issue may be with the lcd screen - if you have one. They are available from Amazon w/ up to 200 watts on their own without an amp, or you can utilize an amp if wanted. We just purchased one to replace a 2002 unit

Thanks everyone for your replies. After contacting Crutchfields I found the only way to obtain a remote control like we have is to go to a marine radio. We opted for a pioneer unit with a handheld remote unit.
Thanks for your help
