1984 Newell.
Traveling through Texas today, and the drivers windshield wiper decided to quit. Rain is predicted on our travels for tomorrow. I can send the wiper back to "park", but can only get it to do one sweep. Of course the passenger side is perfect. Until today we have had no problems with these. I assume they are not vacuum , but air operated? Where do I start looking for the culprit?
My solution for the time being is a fresh coat of Rain X. Not ideal, but the best I could come up with. Any thoughts, Classic owners?
Thanks,
Guy

So, if you twist the knob on it clockwise, will it work?

Not sure if it applies to the 1984's but the Bosch wipers on my 1992 have bushings that tend to rust with time and put enough tension on the wiper shaft that they tend to stall, especially at high speeds. Using a penetrating oil and using the wipers on a routine basis seem to help mine more than anything else I have done. Sitting for long periods of non-use, particularly in a damp climate are almost guaranteed to cause my wipers to hang from time to time. The other issue if the blade just hangs is to be sure the cap nut on the front of the shaft that holds the blade securely to the shaft is tight. A loose cap nut will result in the motor turning the shaft back and forth without moving the blade.

Thanks for both replies !
Clarke was spot on. Thanks for not asking if I knew there was a speed control on that knob. I did not. Turned up the speed on it and it is a go. I will have to do some wok later as I now hear a slight hiss of air, but that is ok, since I was running out of projects to do on the bus!!

You know, I'm not really sure.... haven't had to replace anything like that yet.

I will report back on that. This California boy and his wife will arrive in North Carolina tomorrow. The last 200 miles of our cross country trip. Seems to rain every day for a few hours. The wiper is now fully defunct, and I can hear air when I turn up the wiper speed. The passenger side still works perfectly. When we are situated in our long term spot, ( for 8 weeks or so), I will attempt to lift up the dash panel for access. I tried to do this a few months ago to change the genny hour meter, and could not get the panel to come up. Felt like it was being restricted, perhaps by tach or spedo cables? I might be able to get in from underneath, after removing the a/c duct by my knee, but I can't imagine Newell not making the control panel an easy item to access.

The pneumatic wipers on my 83 are not working either. Mine are air powered Trico units. Through research on the web I believe rebuild parts, or rebuilt motors could be purchased from Rome Truck Parts, in Rome GA. I have not pulled the motors out but plan to rebuild them soon.
