Nice Day for a Grease Job - Or So I Thought
#1

Greasing the ZF Axles is easy, 12 zerks, very accessible.  Then the driveshaft has 5 zerks and of course I couldn't' get grease to flow through all 4 points on the U Joint at the differential.  Took it apart & saw some wear so off to Fleetpride for a Spicer SPL170-4X (5-675X) which Fleetpride called a U Joint Kit 1710HR Half Round.  While I had the driveshaft on the bench I was able to check the other U Joint which was OK.

In the meantime I saw that a United 767 hit a bread truck and light pole in New Jersey.  Yikes!  I had a much better day than those guys! Big Grin

Thanks Jim for the documentation.

Wrestling the driveshaft closed your workout rings for the day for sure.

I recently went through this on my coach too.  In addition to the documented zerks, I had (2) zerks on the front axle sway bar bushings.  The rear drive axle sway bar did not have the zerks, but did have (2) holes already tapped.  I went ahead and installed new fittings in the rear.

I used a silicone based grease for these rubber bushings as petroleum grease can cause the rubber to deteriorate.

And that's why this forum is so necessary.  I found exactly what you reported on the sway bar bushings.  Silicone grease is on order & I'll look through my zerk collection to add the two on the rear sway bar. I updated the Grease Zerk Locations document.

Thanks Rob!

Just remembered the two zerks on the rear engine cover.
