Bring the room in. Look to make sure the “hook” that moves the ceiling fan/light with the room is not impeding removal. Bang straight up on the valence. It may take some force to pop it loose. It is a friction fit.
When you get the valence off, remove the strip of dust brush. You will see there are 4 Allen head bolts holding the slide pin. If you don’t remove the brush strip, the upper bolts are hidden.
And I don’t know about the disabling of the solenoid.
